We are proud to announce that the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation has awarded Deer Valley Academy with a five-year academic accreditation term from the AdvancED Board of Trustees. Founded in 1895, the prestigious NCA (North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement) accredits schools in 19 states encompassing over 8,500 public and private schools including Department of Defense Schools and the Navajo Nation. It is a division of AdvancED, which is the parent organization of the Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement, the National Study of School Evaluation, and the Southern Association of Colleges. The NCA Quality Assurance Review Team commended Deer Valley Academy for having a “family environment that is safe, caring, nurturing and understanding.” The Review Team said this “was evidenced by student interviews, administrative interviews, parent interviews, and teacher interviews” as well as “newsletters, samples of newspaper articles and local news, events, student recognition and graduation.” They also commended Deer Valley Academy for its “failure is not an option” approach to student academic expectations. They found three categories of evidence that supported this view: (1) Academic performance, substantiated by grade distributions, AIMS scores and graduation rates; (2) Instructional plans that were designed to meet graduation requirements based on individual student needs; and, (3) Interviews of teachers, students, parents and support staff.
